Measure to fit outside the window frame

About this type of blind:

Also known as ‘face fitting’ or ‘outside mount’ fitting, measuring your window ‘outside the window frame’ means your venetian blind will cover the entire window and sit on top of the wall around the window.

This style of fitting works best with architraves (either timber or metal), but you can still use an outside fitting, by just adding 100mm to your measurements each way.

To start, you will need:

• A metal measuring tape – it’s much more reliable than a soft measuring tape (which is often used in dressmaking)
• A piece of paper and pen for writing down your measurements

Follow these simple steps:

1. Take your tape measure and measure from the outside left hand side (LHS) of the architrave to the outside right hand side (RHS) of the architrave. Do this at both the top and the bottom of the window to allow for variations in sizing. Take the shortest measurement and write this down in mm.
2. Do the same again, from the top of the architrave to the bottom of the architrave on the LHS and then the RHS to allow again for variations. Take the shortest measurement and write this down in mm.
3. Now you need to include the space the headbox will take up – so add a minimum of 50mm to your measurement in step 2.
4. Double check your measurements and you’re all done!
